Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

Special Educational Needs

At Westerings Primary Academy, we strive to meet the needs of all pupils within our school. All staff are aware of SEND within the school and receive high-quality information and training. We aim to quickly identify pupils, who are making limited progress and provide targeted interventions and support to meet their needs. We ensure that parents are fully aware of the SEND process and informed of their child’s learning at regular points throughout the year. We are a fully inclusive school and work alongside the Academy Trust, Local Authority, Health Professionals, and community organisations, to find the most appropriate and effective support for pupils within our care.

The following documents will give you more information in relation to SEND. If you have any concerns or wish to discuss SEND at our school, please do not hesitate to contact me:

PASTORAL SUPPORT TEAM:

Mrs Higginson (our Learning Support Mentor) is supported by Miss Springett, Mrs Hickman and Mrs Collier. Each member of our team runs SEMH interventions, therapy sessions and before-school/lunchtime clubs throughout the week.

...And don't forget Zola, our very own therapy dog!

Local Offer:

Local Authorities have a duty to publish a Local Offer, setting out in one place information about provision they expect to be available in their area across education, health and social care for children and young people in their area who have SEN or are disabled, including those who do not have EHC plans.

Coffee Connection

Each month the school hosts a Coffee Connection morning. Coffee Connection is a supportive space where parents can connect with each other and professionals.

Sessions will be led by the SENCO and our Learning Mentor. Depending on the specific focus of each session there may be other members of staff present or various outside agencies, or professionals who will provide further support and advice.

Each month the topic or focus will be shared via Parent Pay. Dates for these sessions can be found on this page.

All parents are welcome to attend.
