11+

If your child is achieving exceptionally high, you may consider a Grammar School secondary education. Staff at Westerings will be able to assist you in explaining your child's current academic levels. Some parents provide tutors, however the testing process has undergone changes in recent years and the style of test has been adapted. There is no longer a distinct verbal reasoning test and the selective tests are geared towards achievement at above average levels in the National Curriculum.

You will be able to purchase relevant workbooks at most bookshops and via the Consortium of Selective Schools website at http://www.csse.org.uk

We do have children each year who take the 11+ tests and achieve places at the Grammar Schools in Southend. Extra tutoring is not always needed, as teaching and learning in Year 5 and 6 are set at high levels.

There are several excellent secondary providers in this area so there are various options for parents and children.
